WINDOWS NT/2000/XP

To determine your hardware ethernet address, use the IPCONFIG command as described below. From the desktop, click on the Start button at the lower left hand corner of your screen. At the ensuing menu, select Run. When prompted for a program to run, type in command and press the {Enter} key. A window with a command prompt will pop up. At this prompt, type in ipconfig /all and press the {Enter} key. Look for the label Physical Address. The number next to it is your MAC address.

WINDOWS 95/98

From the desktop, click on the Start button at the lower left hand corner of your screen. At the ensuing menu, select Run. When prompted for a program to run, type in WINIPCFG and press the {Enter} key. A window titled "IP Configuration" will pop up. Make sure that the adapter selected in the drop-down is your ethernet adapter. Copy down the "Adapter Address". This is your MAC address.

WINDOWS for Workgroups with Microsoft TCP/IP

Open the MS-DOS prompt from Program Manager. At the MS-DOS prompt, type NET DIAG /STATUS and press Enter. When asked for a NetBIOS name, press Enter. Some network information will be displayed. Look for the line that starts with Permanent node name. The number after it is your MAC address.

MACINTOSH with Open Transport

At the Macintosh desktop, click on the Apple icon at the upper left hand corner of the screen. When the menu pops up, click on the icon labeled Control Panels. When the Control Panels window opens, look for an icon labeled TCP/IP. If you are currently viewing the control panels in a view other than Large Icons, you won't see this icon, and at that point just look for the label TCP/IP. When you find the icon, double-click on it. You should see the following TCP/IP screen, or something similar: Choose Get Info from the File menu to bring up the TCP/IP screen. The address you're looking for is in the Addresses section, in the field labeled Hardware address.

MACINTOSH with MacTCP

At the Macintosh desktop, click on the Apple icon at the upper left hand corner of the screen. When the menu pops up, click on the icon labeled Control Panels. When the Control Panels window opens, look for an icon labeled MacTCP. If you are currently viewing the control panels in a view other than Large Icons, you won't see this icon, and at that point just look for the label MacTCP. When you find the icon, double-click on it to open it. If you have an Ethernet card, then you should see an icon labeled Ethernet. Once you have found the icon, hold down the Option key and click on the icon. Make sure you do not select the icon labeled EtherTalk. The 12-digit hexadecimal number underneath the icon label is your hardware ethernet (MAC) address.
